In our foundation stage classrooms (Rising Two’s, Nursery, Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2), children attain the targets set forth by the British National Curriculum through carefully selected themes which differ for each year group. This allows for our children to gain a better understanding of the World they live in through the various teaching mediums, skills, methods and approaches adopted by teachers at our school.
The themes are used to construct creative and attractive learning centers which address the targets set forth in the early years (Rising Two’s, Nursery, Kindergarten 1). Center-based learning mornings have been incorporated to allow for children to learn through play. They run for 1 hour each morning and has been successful in encouraging children to gain essential skills such as decision making, independence, self-help skills, turn-taking and commitment. Students are also given personal time with their teacher during this one-hour session allowing for each child to extend their learning daily.
Students in Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2) follow specific topics and targets that have been outlined for each subject area in the British National Curriculum. In KS1, children have weekly opportunities to delve into varying subjects including Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Geography, History, Art & Design, Design & Technology and Computing. Some topics in History and Geography are adapted to suit the local environment (Bangkok, Thailand) in order to make learning relevant, accessible and meaningful.
The targets that are set forth for other areas of development (Physical Education, Music and Languages) are met with the help of specialist teachers in additional Sports, Gymnastics, Swimming, Thai Language and Dance & Music sessions.
